Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies

Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies - Rebekah and her Ramblings. A simple and classic recipe for everybody's favorite cookie! There are a few recipes that I love to bake more than any other.  My chocolate chip cookies are my favorite cookies to make, without a doubt.  I don’t make them often due to my desire to try new and more challenging or unique recipes, but these cookies are my happy place. And unsurprisingly, they are one of my most requested cookies. My friend, Jeff, has a birthday that is close to mine and he loves chocolate chip cookies.  When we were in college, he would eat the dough by the handful and scarf down the cookies like they were going to go stale if he didn’t eat them within 10 minutes of them being removed from the oven.  This year, for my birthday, Jeff came over to celebrate both of our days of birth and I finally whipped out my chocolate chip cookies to celebrate.  This recipe is fool proof and the dough is amazing.  I will never not love chocolate chip cookies!!

Yield: about 5 dozen
Total Prep Time: at least 1.5 hours                     Cook Time: 9-11 minutes

What you need:

  • 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened (I sometimes microwave the sticks with the wrappers on  for about 15-20 seconds to soften them)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (1 12 oz. bag) chocolate chips (semi-sweet is my go-to, but milk chocolate is divine as well)Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies - Rebekah and her Ramblings. A simple and classic recipe for everybody's favorite cookie!

Directions:

  • In a large bowl, cream the butter, sugars, and vanilla together until very creamy
  • Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well between each addition
  • In a small bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt together
  • Gradually fold the flour mixture into the sugar mixture, beating well each time you combine the mixtures.  Continue to mix until well-combined
  • Add the chocolate chips and mix until the chips are well integrated
  • Refrigerate the dough, covered, for at least an hour – I’ve done as much as 24 hours before. This helps the flavors come together and the dough firm up to provide thick cookies
  • Preheat the oven to 375* and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Take 1 tablespoon of dough and make a mound (so they are taller than they are wide)
  • Cook the cookies for 9-11 minutes or the middle is just set
  • Let the cookies sit on the cookie sheet outside the oven for about 2 minutes before removing to a cooling rack
